RSfMS(wC):* What're You Havin'?

Here's the question: what's he drinking? I have a few theories of my own, but I'll keep them to myself so as not to prejudice your responses. (And besides, my own thoughts are wildly divergent, leading to radically different notions of who this man might be.)

  1. gin, with vodka jello shots (no, those aren't ice cubes)

  2. he looks a bit down on his luck, but the hat and overcoat give the notion of previously better times and a sense of finer things.

So, cheap bourbon, but with a dash of bitters.

  3. It's a Lillet. Don't judge a book by its cover...

  11. I think he's an aged Truman Capote, and he's drinking Scotch, because even though Capote was a queen, he did love his manly drinks- or at least that's how I picture him.

  13. I'm thinking that's some Alka-Seltzer in warm water ... he sure seems to have had a good time last night! What a great character -- he needs his own comic strip.

  14. Interesting, interesting. As I said, my own thoughts were wildly divergent, tending towards two opposite poles:

    1. It's a drinky-drink: probably scotch, possibly with something else, possibly a weird something else. I initially though scotch and soda, but the soda didn't seem right. I suspect him of a sweet tooth, and I suspect him of being a mama's boy. I suspect Mama drank a Rusty Nail every Friday night, and I suspect he does the same. I suspect he's drinking one right now.*

    2. He's a teetoler. And to sate that sweet tooth, he drinks Shirley Temples—extra cherry juice—all day long.

In the end I settled on the drinky-drink, and consequently, the Rusty Nail. That's my vote. Rusty Nail.

Many of you had similar ideas. Brown liquors were popular, Scotch in particular. Some of you shared my teetotaler-suspicions, including Ms. Froggie who specifically echoed my Shirley Temple-aholic leanings. Interesting. Interesting.

    * I've never had a Rusty Nail, and I don't ever intend to. Scotch and Drambuie? Sounds disgusting. Scotch? Great. (It's my fourth favorite liquor: 1–bourbon, 2–gin, 3–vodka...). But Drambuie? A syrupy Scotch-based liquer, funking up a fine clean liquor? No, thank you.
