Meteorological Musings: I Like That

With our highly localized summer storms, it can be calm and dry here and monsoon-like over there. I like at night, when it's cool and dry1 and mild, and somewhere far away lightning is flashing, much too far even hear the thunder, just momentary sweeps of light on the horizon. I like that.

1 I say "dry", meaning it's not actually raining. The air is still plenty wet.

    That kind of lightening without thunder used to be called "sheet lightening". I wonder why. Is it still called that? I don't think I've ever seen the phrase used anywhere else but here.
