- I present a drawing of a man with a mustache.
- You guess: is it ironic or not? (Is it a knowing winking cultural reference or is it just some hair on the upper lip?)
- Once the guesses are tallied, I reveal the correct answer (along with a bit of back-story for good measure).
- We laugh. We cry. We smack our foreheads.
- We do it all over again. (The challenges increase in difficulty each round.)
- The contestant with the most correct answers wins a Deluxe Beard & Mustache Grooming Kit and an ironic "Free Mustache Rides" t-shirt.*
Is it:
a) ironicSubmit your answer.
b) not ironic
* As opposed to a non-ironic "Free Mustache Rides" t-shirt. (It's all in the choice of font.)
53rd and third...
ReplyDeleteDefinitely ironic
b. Not ironic
ReplyDeleteI think this is a fashion-forward mustache. The glasses are just a tad too nerdy to not be a knowing appropriation. I also take him to be a late-30s hipster (open shirt collar), and not a stubborn, authentic nerd in his 50s.
ReplyDeleteBut is 'ironic' the right label? Very few clothing/grooming choices are sustainably ironic. You might try it once for a chuckle, but to keep it going you have to own it. And once the trend catches on, the joke is over, and the look is simply taken to be cool. I see this a lot in the college kids.
Ironic.
ReplyDeleteHalf Milton, Half Reno 911.
b.) not ironic
ReplyDeleteNot ironic. He drives the Lay's potato chips delivery van and just decided growing a moustache would mean he had less to shave
